Willie L. Tarver (1932–2010), Wadley, Georgia, self-taught folk-art sculpture depicting a stylized bird in profile with dramatically raised wing and extended tail. Constructed from cut sheet metal, painted deep red and embellished with bold black feather markings, the piece demonstrates the direct graphic quality found throughout Tarver’s work. A Georgia-born artist and retired welder, Tarver created both cement and welded-metal sculpture and became recognized for his inventive depictions of animals, people, religious subjects and Southern life. His work is represented in the Telfair Museums and other public and private collections. 14"x10"
