W. H. Hancock signed North Carolina pottery pitcher, circa 1880, wheel-thrown with rounded ovoid body, broad pouring lip and applied strap handle. The vessel is covered in a rich reddish-brown glaze with natural firing variations and bears an impressed maker’s mark at the shoulder. A handsome and substantial example of nineteenth-century North Carolina utilitarian pottery, retaining the direct functional form and hand-finished character associated with regional production. 10" mint condition as fired from the aritst.
