Piedmont North Carolina salt-glazed stoneware jug, circa 1880, of tall cylindrical form with rounded shoulder, short neck and applied strap handle. The surface displays a subdued gray-brown salt glaze with characteristic orange-peel texture and natural firing variations. A classic nineteenth-century utilitarian form made for the storage and transportation of liquids, representing the strong stoneware tradition of North Carolina’s Piedmont region. 12" mint condition as fired from the aritst.
