Hilton Catawba Valley, North Carolina, stoneware jar, of tall cylindrical form with rounded shoulder and rolled rim, covered in a mottled brown alkaline glaze with pronounced firing variations. The Hilton family represents one of the longest-running pottery traditions of the Catawba Valley, beginning with John Wesley Hilton in the nineteenth century and continuing through multiple generations. The signed nature of this utilitarian vessel adds considerably to its historical interest as an example of traditional Hilton family pottery. 12" mint condition as fired from the aritst.
