Kim Ellington (b. 1954, Hickory, North Carolina) large Catawba Valley pottery jar with small lug handles and dark alkaline glaze, the surface displaying characteristic variations from the firing. Ellington studied pottery at Haywood Community College from 1978–1980 and opened his first shop in 1982. After moving to Vale, North Carolina, he became a friend and student of legendary Catawba Valley potter Burlon Craig, adopting the region's traditional use of local clay, alkaline glazes, wood firing and groundhog-kiln technology. 11" mint condition as fired from the aritst.
