Burlon Craig (1914–2002), Vale, North Carolina, traditional Catawba Valley stoneware foot warmer, of rounded upright form with projecting filling spout and dark gray-green alkaline glaze. Foot warmers were utilitarian vessels filled with heated water and used to provide warmth in beds or at the feet. Craig's work was rooted directly in the historic utilitarian pottery traditions of North Carolina's Catawba Valley, where he continued using local materials, alkaline glazes and wood-fired groundhog kilns. 9" mint condition as fired from the aritst.
