Burlon Craig (1914–2002), Vale, North Carolina, Catawba Valley stoneware face jug, having a gray-green alkaline glaze and strongly modeled facial features with applied ears, heavy brows, elongated nose and an open mouth fitted with white teeth. Craig was one of the most important figures in the survival and revival of traditional Catawba Valley pottery. He maintained the regional traditions of local clay, alkaline glazes, wood firing and the groundhog kiln and received the National Endowment for the Arts National Heritage Fellowship in 1984. 9" mint condition as fired from the aritst.
