Billy Ray Hussey (b. 1955, Robbins, North Carolina) large covered stoneware jar with paired lug handles, broad flared rim and fitted domed lid. The surface displays a warm, textured glaze with vertical runs and horizontal incised bands emphasizing the vessel's substantial thrown form. Hussey grew up in the celebrated Seagrove pottery community and is descended from an important North Carolina pottery family; his grandfather was J.H. Jones and his great-uncle was Melvin L. Owens. He opened his own shop in 1988 and has produced both traditional utilitarian forms and distinctive figural pottery. 10" mint condition as fired from the aritst.
