Billy Ray Hussey (b. 1955, Robbins, North Carolina) whimsical Southern folk pottery figural sculpture depicting a formally dressed man dancing or embracing an anthropomorphic squirrel, modeled in the round and mounted on an oval pottery base. Finished in warm earthen tones with contrasting dark glaze to the figure's clothing and expressive incised and modeled details throughout. Hussey comes from a multigenerational Seagrove-area pottery family and learned the craft at an early age in the shop of his great-uncle, noted potter Melvin L. Owens. 12" mint condition as fired from the aritst.
