Willie L. Tarver (1932–2010), Wadley, Georgia, self-taught folk-art welded metal sculpture depicting a standing spear-bearing figure with elongated limbs, modeled head, loop earrings and contrasting red-painted accents. Constructed from salvaged and torch-worked metal, the figure displays the direct welding, rough surfaces and expressive distortion characteristic of Tarver’s mature sculpture. Tarver’s subjects drew from Southern life, religion, history, mythology and his own imagination, and his works are represented in museum and private collections. 8"x13"
