Pair of North Carolina Cole family pottery candlesticks, circa 1940, each having a tall slender column rising from a broad circular foot, applied loop handle and dramatically flared candle cup. Both are covered in a rich, glossy dark brown glaze that emphasizes the hand-thrown surfaces and subtle irregularities of the forms. The Cole family represents one of the important multigenerational pottery traditions of the Seagrove and Randolph County region, producing both traditional utilitarian wares and decorative art pottery during the twentieth century. 10" each mint condition as fired from the aritst.
