Pennsylvania redware pie plate, circa 1870, of broad shallow circular form with a rolled darkened rim and warm orange-brown glazed interior. The surface displays extensive age-related crazing, firing variation and areas of wear that contribute to its strong early utilitarian character. Pie plates of this type were everyday household wares produced by regional potters throughout nineteenth-century Pennsylvania and survive as appealing examples of American redware tradition. 8" diameter good condition for its age, see photos.
