Russell Gillespie (b. 1922) pair of folk art gourd bird sculptures, each formed from naturally shaped gourds with elongated carved necks and beaks, wooden legs, wings, and circular bases. Gillespie is a North Carolina self-taught artist and Baptist minister known for carving imaginative figures from roots, burls, gourds, and other natural materials.
