Binford “Benny” Carter Jr. (1943–2014), North Carolina self-taught artist, rare architectural folk-art birdhouse constructed from weathered and reclaimed wood, modeled as a tall narrow house with pitched roof, painted windows, shutters, brickwork and other architectural details surrounding the circular bird entrance. Carter frequently transformed discarded and found materials into imaginative birdhouses and environmental constructions, and surviving examples demonstrate that birdhouses were an important part of his highly personal body of work. 24"x9"
