Harold Hewell and Grace Nell Hewell (1933–2016) Georgia folk pottery face jug, wheel-thrown with dark alkaline-style glaze and strongly modeled features including applied ears, inset eyes, prominent nose, open mouth with china-like teeth and a modeled beard or goatee. Harold and Grace Nell worked together at the historic Hewell Pottery in Gillsville, Georgia, part of a pottery tradition established in 1850 and continued through multiple generations of the Hewell family. Documented collaborative face jugs are signed by both Harold and Grace Nell Hewell.
