Benny Carter (1943–2014), North Carolina self-taught artist, large circular New York City painting centered on Yankee Stadium, surrounded by dense rows of brightly colored buildings, yellow taxis, storefronts, bridges, American flags, the Statue of Liberty and a moonlit skyline. Carter began painting in 1992 after losing his job at a copper mill and became nationally recognized for paintings, clocks, birdhouses, totems and sculpture.
