Antique Appalachian oak-split gathering basket, hand woven in a rectangular form with a single tall wooden handle, woven bottom and decorative wrapped rim. Constructed from narrow hand-prepared oak splints using traditional over-and-under weaving techniques associated with Appalachian domestic basketmaking. The warm aged surface and irregularities of the hand-worked splints give the basket excellent folk character. 18"x12"13"
